Workflow apps for security clearances and committee approvals — built on Mendix, integrated with SAP.
How CODE81 built two high-value workflow applications for a sovereign government entity — a Visitor Management System for end-to-end security workflows, and a Committee Case Analysis app with multi-level approvals integrated with SAP.
Two production workflow apps — Visitor Management and Committee Case Analysis
Multi-level approval cycles integrated with the system of record
Role-based access mirroring the organisational hierarchy
01 / THE CHALLENGE
Critical workflows that needed to land fast — without disrupting the surrounding systems.
The client needed targeted workflow applications for security visitor management and committee case analysis — high-stakes, multi-step processes that previously ran on email and spreadsheets, with no audit trail and no integration with the systems of record.
Both workflows had specific governance requirements: VMS needed end-to-end security clearance workflows with traceability for every visit; CCA needed multi-level approval cycles with full SAP integration and role-based access aligned to the organisational hierarchy. Building these as bespoke custom apps would have taken too long. Buying off-the-shelf would have meant compromise on every workflow detail. The low-code answer fit both constraints.
02 / OUR ROLE
What CODE81 delivered.
Two purpose-built workflow apps plus the identity integration that made them governable from day one.
- Developed a Visitor Management System (VMS) handling end-to-end security workflows for visit requests and clearances — every step traceable, every approval captured.
- Implemented a Committee Case Analysis (CCA) app with multi-level approval cycles integrated with SAP — proposals routed through governance gates with full SAP-side traceability.
- Integrated both apps with Active Directory for automated role-based access mirroring the organisational hierarchy — content and approval rights flowing automatically from the org chart.
03 / IMPACT
Three outcomes from the two production workflow apps.
Outcomes reported by the client across the workflow application delivery.
/ OUTCOME 01
Rapid Service Deployment
Critical new services deployed rapidly through low-code Mendix modules — without disrupting the surrounding system landscape.
/ OUTCOME 02
Automated Approval Chains
Secure, role-based access with automated content approval chains based on the AD hierarchy — governance encoded into the app, not policed afterwards.
/ OUTCOME 03
Visibility Across the Estate
Workflows previously run on email and spreadsheets now provide centralised visibility across SAP, identity, and operational systems.
04 / TECHNOLOGY
Built on Mendix low-code modules, integrated with SAP and Active Directory.
Two workflow apps delivered on a low-code foundation — fast to build, integrated with the systems of record, and governed by the organisation's existing identity hierarchy.
